LOB came up against a formidable and tough competitor this weekend, the Palmerston Girls High 1st XI. Old Boys batted first and scored a bit too slowly for for the majority of the innings, with Girls High having some great bowlers who made it quite a hard task for the boys. The only stand out with the bat was Thomas Kirk with an unbeaten 54 runs. LOB finished with 110 runs for 3 off their allotted 25 overs, at least 20-30 runs short of a competitive total.
Girls High achieved this total in the 20th over with 6 wickets down. The boys did really well and held their own against a top side with some players much older than our lads. Alec, Tom and Hemish each picked up 1 wicket a piece. The fielding was pretty good too as we were able to create 3 run outs.
Thomas Kirk, 54 not out v PNGH.

What a comeback by the boys from the previous week. Batting first we started slow but were not helped by a long and damp outfield holding the ball up. Callum Kennett top scored with 20 and was well supported by Riley McLean with 10. A quick fire 11 from Alec Strydom and 10 from Sam Anderson at the end got us through to a respectable 109/8 off our 25 overs.
The boys then fielded extremely well. With some great bowling from the ‘spin king’ Hemish Patel whom took 4 wickets for 1 run and some outstanding fielding including some great catches (Sam Anderson and Rueben McCartney in particular). Ross Intermediate were restricted to 49/9 of their 25 over to see LOB win by 60 runs.
